Is BOMBANANA worth the argument?
Very Positive, strictly three players, and funny only if your friends survive the relay.
BOMBANANA is a $7.99 Steam party game that refuses to let you play it alone. Lefto Studio, an Istanbul indie that also worked on Liars Bar and We Are So Cooked, shipped the full build on 2 September 2026 with TARK as publisher. The demo had already been a Next Fest monster: on the order of six million players, a million wishlists, and a long stay at Overwhelmingly Positive. The paid game opened at Very Positive in early reviews. That gap is normal for a paid three-player requirement. It is also a warning. The people who review this game already found two friends.
This is not a sequel to Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes, even if the silhouette is obvious. KTANE lets one person be the hands and everyone else share a PDF. BOMBANANA splits the senses across three bodies and then hides the manual from two of them. Mute cannot talk. Deaf cannot hear. Blind cannot see the colors they are asked to cut. The comedy is the restriction. The skill is the relay.

What it gets right
The role triangle is clean. Blind Monkey is the only player who touches the bomb, reads braille, and listens. Mute Monkey is the only player with the book. Deaf Monkey is the only player who can look at both and speak. You feel the design in the first five minutes because a natural habit (asking the hands what they see) is illegal. That click is rare in party games that otherwise just hand everyone the same cartoon gun.
Campaign is a real course now. Thirty handcrafted levels is a different product from the demo’s short ladder and Free Mode. The minivan is the joke you already watched. The airplane is a second workplace that forces Mute to think about sight lines. Hazards (outages, obstructions, noise) attack the relay instead of adding a health bar. Endless and Custom exist so a group that has finished the authored set still has a reason to boot the game on a Thursday. Details on that split live in Campaign Levels and the mode tier list.
The full module plan is ambitious. Fourteen new puzzles on top of the demo families, including three CHAOS modules that exist to keep Blind busy, means the hands player is not a bored button. I will not pretend this wiki has solved those tables. The in-game manual is the game. Process beats spoilers. Puzzle Modules is written that way on purpose.
Lobby tools are what a viral demo deserved: server browser, room codes, friends invites, a random role button, two colorblind modes, full controller support with Steam Input. You can find a third stranger without adding them on Steam. That matters more than slapping, even though slapping is the feature Lefto would like you to quote.
At $7.99, or $4.95 through 9 September 2026, the price is a round of drinks. Three copies is still a cheap night if the trio actually shows up.
What it refuses to fix
Exactly three players is a wall. There is no solo manual trainer, no two-player mode with a bot Mute, no drop-in fourth. Scheduling is the boss fight. If your friends flake, you own a monkey emulator. Playing Co-op is honest about that. Do not buy this as a backup game for when two of you are online.
Public lobbies will grief the puzzle. The social toys (emotes for everyone, slapping, flipping off, voice-synced mouths) are tuned for clips. They are also how a stranger ruins a switch panel. Host a code if you care about a clear. Treat the browser as a different mode.
Steam Deck is Unknown. macOS is supported, which is more than many Unity party games bother with, but anyone promising a verified Deck night is ahead of Valve’s label. Controls and system requirements are the dry version.
The game will not teach you a dictionary. Lefto is proud of that. New groups who skip Communication will spend their first hour on whether thumbs-up means cut. That hour is either the content you paid for or a reason to refund, and both readings are fair.
Who should buy it
Buy it if you already have two people who will install on the same night, if you like talk-heavy puzzles more than mechanical ones, and if you can laugh when a wrong glyph ends a run. Buy it if the demo already ate a weekend of your life and you want the airplane, the extra modules, and a Campaign that is not seven rungs.
Skip it if you wanted a solo KTANE-like with a bigger manual. Skip it if your group is two. Skip it if loud voice chat is a bad room for you. Skip it if you need a ranked competitive scene; this is an argument simulator that happens to include twenty-three Steam achievements.
If you buy it, assign roles on purpose the first night, not with the random button. Read the players hub so nobody is surprised that Deaf cannot hear a shout. Keep fake wire tables off the second monitor. The guides hub is the rest of the practical stack: modules, campaign, communication, co-op, and controls.
Verdict
BOMBANANA is a sharp, mean, small co-op game that knows its joke and finally has enough Campaign to support it. The demo proved the hook. The release adds workplaces, module volume, and lobby tools without breaking the three-monkey rule that makes the hook work. Very Positive is the right early temperature: people who can assemble a trio are having the night the trailer promised. People who cannot assemble a trio do not leave reviews, they leave the page.
I would pay $7.99 again for a group that already talks over each other. I would not gift a single copy to someone who plays Steam like a single-player library. Send the undecided friend the Steam store page and a calendar invite with two other names on it. If those two names do not exist, wait. The bomb does not start for fewer monkeys.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers for three-player bomb runs.
Is BOMBANANA worth $7.99?
Yes if you have two other players who will show up. No if you wanted a solo puzzle game. The intro price is $4.95 through 9 September 2026.
How do early reviews look?
The full game opened at Very Positive. The demo sat at Overwhelmingly Positive with a huge Next Fest audience. Both scores come from people who already found a trio.
Is this just Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes with monkeys?
The silhouette is similar, but BOMBANANA locks senses to three roles and hides the manual on Mute. Read Communication and the players hub.
How long is the full game?
Campaign is thirty handcrafted levels, then Endless waves and Custom drills. It is not the demo's seven-tier list. See Campaign Levels.
Who should skip BOMBANANA?
Anyone who cannot schedule three players, anyone who wants solo practice, and anyone who hates voice-driven party games. Playing Co-op spells out the wall.
