BOMBANANA Talk in one direction

Mute looks it up, Deaf says it, Blind does it. Everything else is a boom with extra steps.

BOMBANANA Communication

BOMBANANA is a conversation with holes in it. Lefto Studio does not force a single script. The Steam page even tells you to wave, shout, or throw bananas. That freedom is how new trios die. The roles already decide who can speak, who can hear, and who can read. If you improvise against those limits, you are not being creative. You are asking Deaf Monkey to hear a question they cannot hear.

The reliable chain is Mute to Deaf to Blind. Mute Monkey reads the defusal manual and cannot speak. Deaf Monkey can see Mute’s emotes and the bomb, and can speak. Blind Monkey can hear Deaf and can touch the casing, but cannot see colors or screens. Information that travels the other way has to ride emotes or patience, not in-game voice.

If you still need the first-night checklist, use Getting Started. If the words are fine and the hands are not, use Controls. This page is the social protocol.

Why the triangle only works one way

Mute has the answers and no mouth. The only legal output is a gesture: emote wheel, fingers, nods, pointing at a number, a wait sign. Deaf is the only player who can both see that gesture and turn it into speech. Blind is the only player who can take that speech and press the world.

Deaf cannot hear Blind ask which wire. In-game voice is restricted by role. A scream does not cross that gap. Blind has to flash an emote Deaf can see, or wait until Deaf looks at the hands. The full game gives every role an emote wheel, plus slapping and a bird-flip, plus mouths that move when someone actually talks. Use the wheel as a tool. Save the slap for the lobby.

Mute can hear Deaf speak a number and should flash a visual wrong sign if the spoken digit does not match the manual. Mute still cannot answer in speech, so do not pile English on a player whose job is to be silent. Role details live on Mute Monkey, Deaf Monkey, and Blind Monkey.

Build a dictionary before the timer

Agree meanings, then stop expanding them mid-bomb.

  • Wait: freeze. No cut, no Enter, no extra emote.
  • Yes: the repeat-back matches. Do the input.
  • Wrong: abort. Reread.
  • Repeat: send the last package again, same order.
  • Numbers: a scheme you can do with fingers or wheel slots. Zero needs a plan.
  • Left and right: always Blind’s body.

Write it on the callout sheet if anyone is new. Mute should stand where Deaf can see the whole wheel without leaning through an obstruction. Airplane stages make this a real movement puzzle. Campaign hazards make it worse: a loud interruption can bury Deaf’s sentence even when the dictionary was perfect. Stop, clear, resume. Campaign Levels is the workplace version of that rule.

Speak like a form, not like a story. Module name, position, details, answer, repeat, confirm, input. Puzzle Modules lists the details each family needs. Wires want count, left-to-right colors, LED. Direction wants LED and the center or braille value. Keypad wants the full equation, odd or even, LED, and glyph presses rather than phone-pad corners. Switches want the whole light order and the numbers before Enter. CHAOS modules want Blind’s hands, which means Mute and Deaf must not start a second novel while Blind is occupied.

In-game voice versus Discord

The game ships role-restricted voice. That is the intended toy. Many groups also sit in a Discord call. The official Discord is a fine place to find a third player. It is a dangerous place to park Deaf’s ears.

If Deaf leaves Discord audio on, they can hear Mute’s roommate, Blind’s mutter, and a fourth friend who is spectating. That breaks the handicap and also breaks the joke. Decide the house rule in the lobby:

  • Strict: only in-game voice. Deaf hears nothing. Blind hears Deaf. Mute is silent.
  • Mixed: Discord for lobby logistics, then Deaf mutes Discord audio when the bomb arms.
  • Chaos: everyone hears everything and you are playing a different, easier game. Own that choice. Do not call it a Blind run if Deaf is getting table talk through headphones.

Push-to-talk helps Deaf keep sentences clean. Voice-synced mouths tell Mute and Blind who is actually speaking in the van, which is useful when a fourth Steam overlay noise leaks in. Lower game music until the spoken chain is the loudest thing in Blind’s headset.

Stop phrases, blame, and public rooms

Pick a stop word that means hands off, timer be damned. When someone says it, Blind steps back from interact. Mute holds wait. Deaf restates the module from scratch. Teams that refuse to stop will protect a wrong number all the way into a boom, then spend the next five minutes on who is stupid. The bomb already exploded. You do not need a second explosion in the voice channel.

Blame the step, not the person. Mute looked at cables instead of switches. Deaf skipped the count. Blind cut on a maybe. Then swap jobs so the same person is not Mute for three hours. The role tier list is a pain ranking, not a personality test.

Public lobbies on the server browser will not have your dictionary. Hosts should paste three emote meanings in chat and assign roles before Start. Room codes are for friends who already have the dictionary. Playing Co-op covers the browser, codes, and the random role button. Random is a communication test. Do not randomize a brand-new trio unless you want the worst bomb defusal of the week on purpose.

When the chain is boring, you are winning. Funny comes after the module clears. If you would rather watch people fail the chain for comedy, that is a valid BOMBANANA night, and the BOMBANANA review is honest about that audience. For the rest of the walkthroughs, go back to the guides hub.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers for three-player bomb runs.

What is the default callout direction in BOMBANANA?

Mute reads the manual and gestures, Deaf speaks, Blind acts. Other directions fight the role limits. See the players hub for what each monkey can and cannot do.

Can Deaf Monkey hear me if I shout in-game?

No. In-game voice is restricted by role. Deaf cannot hear. Blind can hear spoken instructions. Use emotes Blind can show and Deaf can see.

Should we use Discord during a bomb?

Only if you decide how it interacts with the Deaf handicap. The [official Discord](https://discord.gg/zJrY2ZbSUX) is the community hub. Lobby setup notes are on Playing Co-op.

What emotes do we need on night one?

Wait, yes, and wrong. Add repeat and a number scheme as soon as Mute is comfortable. Bind the wheel using Controls.

How do we stop a bad cut before it happens?

Agree a stop phrase, require Blind's repeat-back, and never cut on a maybe. The callout sheet is the short version of that rule.
