BOMBANANA Three monkeys or no bomb

Server browser, room codes, Steam friends, and a host who assigns jobs before Start.

Last updated:

BOMBANANA is online co-op for exactly three players. Steam’s feature list is not being cute. There is no solo campaign, no two-player handicap mode, and no local split-screen listed. If a friend is late, you wait in the lobby. If a fourth friend wants in, they watch or they rotate after a boom.

Lefto Studio built the full release around that number: three roles, three information channels, one casing. The June demo already enforced it. The 2 September 2026 launch did not relax it. This page is how you actually get three clients into one room, how you pick jobs without a fight, and how public browsers differ from a private code with people you can still stand.

Brand-new groups should still read Getting Started for install and the first bomb. Come here when the problem is people, not wires.

How to sit in the same lobby

Each player buys and installs the game (Steam app 4656000). The demo was app 4747510. Do not mix a leftover demo client with a full-game host and hope the versions shrug it off. Launch once solo so everyone reaches the menu. Then pick a meeting method:

  • Steam friends invite, if you are already on each other’s lists.
  • A room code, if you want a private box without the friends list.
  • The server browser, if you want strangers or a public night.

Lefto shipped the browser and codes so you do not have to add random people as Steam friends just to defuse a briefcase. That is the right tool for Discord pick-up groups. Share the code in the official Discord, then close the lobby when the third monkey is in. Hardware and OS notes live on system requirements. Step-by-step host clicks live on lobby setup.

Crossplay with consoles is not a listed feature. Windows and macOS are the shipped platforms. Steam Deck is Unknown. Full controller support exists inside those PC clients, including Xbox and PlayStation pads through Steam Input, but a PlayStation console player is not in this ecosystem unless Lefto says otherwise later. Check launch notes if that ever changes.

Assign roles like a host, not like a raffle

The lobby has a random role button. Use it when the trio already knows every job and wants the extra panic. Do not use it on a first date with the game. Hosts should ask who wants to talk, who wants to read, and who wants to press.

Deaf Monkey talks and sees. Mute Monkey reads and never talks. Blind Monkey presses and never sees the pretty LED. Deep writeups are on the players hub. A public lobby that skips this step will start with two people grabbing Blind because the trailer made the hands look easy, and nobody holding the manual.

Colorblind modes belong in Options before you queue, not after a green-blue argument. Two modes ship. The random button does not set them for you.

When the three names are in, run the four lobby promises from the beginner page: Blind’s left and right, left-to-right colors, three emotes, one stop phrase. Paste them in chat if you queued with strangers. Then start. The communication guide is the longer version. The callout sheet is the short one you can keep on a second screen.

Public browser etiquette

Public rooms are where BOMBANANA’s anti-friendslop joke becomes non-fiction. People will slap. People will flip each other off. People will ignore the dictionary. That can be the night you wanted. If you wanted a Campaign clear, host a code instead.

A decent public host:

  • Names the mode in the lobby title (Campaign, Endless, or Custom).
  • Waits for three ready players instead of starting the instant a third joins mid-download.
  • Assigns roles or says random in the title so nobody is surprised.
  • Kicks after a repeated grief cut, because a joke bomb still spends other people’s time.

A decent public guest:

  • Has the game already installed.
  • Has a mic if they take Deaf.
  • Has the emote wheel ready if they take Mute.
  • Does not treat Blind as an excuse to mash interact.

Endless in a public browser is a meat grinder. Custom with a two-second timer is a troll setting. Campaign with strangers can work if the host treats early levels as onboarding. Campaign Levels explains why you should not throw a new Mute into late authored bombs. Puzzle Modules is the page to link in chat when someone does not know why the keypad is lying to them.

Voice, disconnects, and rotating a fourth

In-game voice follows the role. If Deaf is silent, they may think you can hear them, or they may have the wrong device. Test in the lobby. If someone drops, the bomb is not a two-player puzzle. Stop, rebuild the trio, restart the stage. Do not try to mime a missing Mute with a wiki tab. The manual is in that player’s client.

A fourth friend can rotate on booms or on workplace changes (minivan versus airplane) so everyone gets a role they have not hated yet. Keep the dictionary stable when you rotate. Changing yes and wait every swap is how you cut a wire for sport.

If a patch breaks invites, read patch notes before you reinstall three times. If you just want to know whether this social design is for you, the BOMBANANA review is the buyer’s page. Input binds for pads and the emote wheel are on Controls. All of those sit under the guides hub.

Three is the design. Protect the number. The funny parts only work when the empty chairs are empty on purpose.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers for three-player bomb runs.

Can two of us start BOMBANANA and add a third later?

No. The round needs three roles from the start. Wait in the lobby. There is no solo and no 1-2 player start.

Do we have to be Steam friends?

No. Use a room code or the server browser. Friends invites still work. See lobby setup for the host flow.

Is there local co-op or console crossplay?

Steam lists online co-op on Windows and macOS. Local split-screen is not listed. Console crossplay is not listed. Steam Deck is Unknown.

When should we press the random role button?

After everyone knows Blind, Mute, and Deaf. New groups should assign jobs on purpose.

Public lobby or private code for Campaign?

Private code if you care about a clear. Public browser if you want chaos. Mode advice is on Campaign Levels and the mode tier list.

Where do we find a third player?

Steam friends, the in-game browser, or the [official Discord](https://discord.gg/zJrY2ZbSUX). Send them the [Steam page](https://store.steampowered.com/app/4656000/BOMBANANA/) so they buy the full game, not a leftover demo.
